Jayne Ford Glass Design

Jayne Ford trained in decorative glass at the International Glass Centre in the Midlands then undertook a Worshipful Glaziers’ training award in 2010 at Pugin, Hardman and Powell in Birmingham.  Whilst in Birmingham she worked in the painting studio and learned traditional stained glass restoration techniques, working mainly on gothic revival glass.  In 2014 she won the Stevens Architectural Glass Award and the George & Evelyn Gee Prize for Craftmanship, going on to set up her studio at Woodend Mill in 2016.  She went on to win the inaugural Lord Mayor of London commemorative roundel design in 2017 and continues to work with the Lord Mayor Reflects Charity and young people as an Arts Award Advisor, all the more important since stained glass was placed on the red list of endangered crafts in 2023 for the first time.

Her activities are not limited to architectural glass and also include mosaic, metalwork and ceramics.  In 2018 she made a mirror-mosaic bee for Manchester Bee in the City (#BlingBee) which was followed by a commission for a second mirrored bee at Manchester Central Convention Centre.  She has made sculptural glass for nature trail events and also bespoke artwork for interiors, such as wardrobe panels, mirrors and tiles.  Notable commissions include stained glass for The Parsonage in Didsbury, wall art for Addenbrooke’s Hospital, an oceanic panorama for the Whitehall Hotel and memorial panels for HMS Conway at Plas Newydd and Bangor Pier.

Jayne continues to use a wide variety of techniques to make glass art for both private and public clients and welcomes enquiries for new projects, the more challenging or unusual the better.
