Glynis Thrope
Artist
Glynis, now retired, has the time to paint and explore her passion for abstracted images. Her work reflects a fascination of wild skies, the interaction of light on water; Scottish and Cumbrian mountains, Pembrokeshire seas, Morecambe bay and Saddleworth moors.
Lucky to have the Saddleworth moors on her doorstep, Glynis captures a landscape can be bleak in rough weather but as Glynis says it is exhilarating when you climb up to the edge and look back down towards Manchester. The light changes constantly which causes the moorland colours to change rapidly, it is the need to capture this light that moves me to paint. Always trying to capture that moment in time.’
Glynis explores the Lake District and Morecambe bay in her small caravan.
The light and weather coming off the Irish sea is spectacular, the view from Morecambe towards the mountains of Cumbria never fails to inspire me. I am constantly trying to get that feeling of excitement into my paintings, including the grey and moody days.
Glynis will be exhibiting some of her latest collection as part of The Saddleworth Art Trail from 4th - 6th May 2024
